Game Development – Education, Experience, and Exposure at EGX

The UK has, over recent years, become an outstanding place to learn the art of game development. More and more universities are offering top-quality degree courses, and development studios are opening their doors up for apprentices. Like any form of education or training though, it is the next step which is often the biggest and most challenging.

Not content with being the UK’s biggest gaming event, EGX 2019 is aiming to make this leap forward easier with its student game jam. While the convention will be taking place across 17-20 October, EGX will be hosting the EGX Game Jam from the Friday to the Sunday. The goal: give student teams the opportunity to practice their game-making skills, work together on a game project, rub shoulders with superstars of the gaming world, and present their jam game to the EGX audience.

Teams will be working with games industry professionals and mentors to help them craft a game concept and demo before the teams present their production at the final developer session of EGX 2019. Why a three-day Game Jam? Trying to imagine and create a game in such a short period of time helps to focus creative energy, learn new techniques and teamwork skills, and develop an understanding of how to scope and scale a game down into a manageable size. In other words, the skills needed to succeed in the games development sector.

To be a part of the game jam, you will need to apply with a team of 4-6 people from your University. Artists, sound designers, programmers, game designers, planners and managers are all welcome to take part! You can find the application form here. Applications close on 15th September so get your teams sorted and applications in as soon as possible!
