Get Ready for UKGE 2024: Gloomhaven, Forever Home, and Altay

In this preview post, before attending the Preview evening on Thursday and then the main Expo, I wanted to quickly highlight some titles and releases people should go check out at UK Games Expo 2024. Here are some three quick preview highlights you should find and check out this week!

Gloomhaven Buttons & Bugs

Gloomhaven Buttons & Bugs is a tactical combat game for one player set in the Gloomhaven world. Don’t think that means a light game though. This is still a deeply tactical experience with plenty of room for tinkering to your playstyle while also containing a satisfying narrative. All in a very small box! Being able to have a full, deeply tactical experience without having to lug around a suitcase and everybody else’s schedule? Sounds like the sort of thing that is right up my alley. Check them out at Stand #1-574.

Forever Home

Forever Home, from Birdwood Games, is a pattern-building game about second chances for shelter dogs. You and your friends take on the role of shelter workers, taking it in turns to bring dogs into your shelter, complete training cards, and match pups up with new families. You’ll be competing for valuable shelter commendations – as well as gaining reputation for training and rehoming the dogs in your care. At the end of the game, the shelter worker with the most reputation wins! Forever Home promises quick and simple turns; a proper solo mode; and a second advanced side to the player board. Check them out at Stand #1-976.

Altay – Dawn of Civilization

Altay – Dawn of Civilization is set in a secluded region where four mysterious societies have cultivated distinct cultures over countless years. Maintaining a delicate balance with nature and amongst themselves, they now confront a new challenge: the influx of settlers, bearing advanced crafts, weapons, techniques, and an entirely different way of life. You know how well received that all usually is. Players, as leaders of Altay’s people, have the choice of how to react to these new challenges. Altay – Dawn of Civilization is due to release in the second half of 2024, and a prototype will be in demo at UKGE. Check it out at the Ares Games Stand #1-514.
